Tell the Chicago School Board: Establish the Black Student Achievement Committee

Dear Chicago School Board,

I support establishing the Black Student Achievement Committee.

Senate Bill 15 (SB15) established the Black Student Achievement Committee as a permanent body within the Chicago Board of Education. Its primary goal is to improve academic outcomes for Black students, who have historically faced systemic underinvestment in the district. The committee aims to address disparities by developing evidence-based strategies and using data to assess and enhance educational policies. Key tasks include creating strategic plans to promote academic equity, setting measurable goals, and providing regular progress reports to ensure accountability and transparency in addressing Black students' needs.

Now more than ever, it’s important that our elected officials listen to the people, not special interests, and put students first.

I am calling on you to stand up for Chicago kids, and prioritize creating the Black Student Achievement Committee right away.
