Demand Connecticut Legislators Fully Fund Education

Thanks to teacher voices, Connecticut has made significant progress in education funding. However, there is still more to be done. A funding gap remains, special education is suffering, and not all students receive equitable opportunities.

Contact the Education Committee to demand an investment in the future of education once and for all. We are calling on state leadership to take the steps necessary to fully fund the Education Cost Sharing formula, add weight to the formula for special education students, and invest in student-centered funding to end tuition billing. We must support all student success.

Education funding has been a top priority for Connecticut residents for years, and the time to act is now. While we’ve made significant progress—such as adding $150 million in the last budget session—students across the state are still falling behind, and the situation is growing increasingly dire.

Our schools are grappling with staff vacancies, a severe shortage of resources, and a pressing need for enhanced special education support. A significant funding gap will persist until the state legislature takes steps to fully fund the Education Cost Sharing formula, add a weight to the formula for special education students, and invest in student-centered funding to end tuition billing.

Our students' futures depend on decisive action now. While the recent $40 million emergency funding for special education will be invaluably helpful to schools this year, a gap still remains. I urge you to prioritize equitable funding immediately and ensure Connecticut’s education system is equipped to meet the needs of every student, regardless of their background or the challenges they face. It is past time we update our funding model that continues to leave thousands of students behind. We cannot afford to wait any longer—we must ensure every student’s needs are met, no matter their zip code.
