NYC Solves: Empower Educators In Curriculum Selection!

In response to stark inequities in math achievement across New York City, city leadership responded boldly with NYC Solves – building on the success of high-quality instructional materials in other districts.

Over the next several years, middle and high schools across the city will shift to a high-quality math curriculum, backed by a $34 million investment. This is a massive shift that NYC educators called for.

However, while the investment in NYC Solves is encouraging, we must ensure educators have a voice in their schools’ curriculum selection – especially as middle schools choose between i-Ready, Amplify, or Illustrative Math.

Research shows that when teachers have an active and early voice in the adoption process, it helps to ensure their expertise and the needs of students inform what is selected. Furthermore, an inclusion-driven process improves teacher buy-in of the chosen program and aids in a program’s rollout and implementation.

If we desire for NYC Solves to truly address inequities and improve student achievement, engaging educators in curriculum selection is an absolute necessity.

So join us, and call on NYC Public Schools to ensure educators have a voice in their schools’ curriculum selection.
