Tell NYCPS: Strengthen Peer Collaboration & Embedded Coaching for NYC Reads and NYC Solves
Call on NYCPS to strengthen peer collaboration and teacher-led coaching for NYC Reads and NYC Solves.
Teachers are clear: they find particular value in professional learning when it’s collaborative, consistent, and led by peers. Recent NYC Solves and NYC Reads survey data backs this up:
71% of educators who meet in professional learning communities (PLCs) monthly or more find them helpful—compared to just 35% who meet quarterly or less.
86% of teachers say coaching from school leadership is useful, compared to only 45% who receive it from external providers.
Educators have spoken. They want more peer collaboration and embedded coaching led by peers, which is linked to high teacher satisfaction. NYCPS should prioritize building the capacity of teacher leaders to lead professional learning by training and supporting these educators with release time and compensation to coach their peers.
Educators know what works. NYCPS must strengthen NYC Reads and NYC Solves by prioritizing peer collaboration and embedded coaching—so every teacher has the support they need to help every student succeed.
