Tell President Trump: Get Out of Our Classrooms!

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)—first signed into law by Congress in 1965—commits to providing “all children a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.”

Recent Executive Orders, budget cuts, and policy changes directed by President Trump’s administration have done the opposite: they’ve attacked LGBTQ+ and immigrant students, policed the content of lessons taught in American classrooms, and slashed funding for teacher training programs.

These efforts, among many others, seek to inappropriately—and arguably, illegally—insert the federal government into classrooms while simultaneously declaring an agenda of “small government” and “states’ rights.” Write to your members of Congress and tell them that this is unacceptable and that they must protect students and uphold the laws and funding approved by the United States Congress!
