Tell The Education Committee: Prioritize Literacy Investments!

Since the passing of the READ Act, Minnesota has made promising strides in improving literacy instruction across our state. Schools are beginning to implement evidence-based reading practices, teachers are receiving training in the science of reading, and there's a renewed focus on ensuring all students develop strong literacy skills.

However, significant work remains to ensure the READ Act fulfills its promise. As our educators have conveyed over the last several months of implementation, an effective rollout of this shift requires adequate resources, training, and support. Join us in calling on state leaders to stand with teachers and strengthen the READ Act's impact by:

• Increasing funding for professional learning (PL) compensation. Educators need to be compensated fairly for the additional time spent in curriculum-aligned professional development.
• Continuing to ensure that teachers are trained in literacy. All educators need this training, and it also needs to be added to the MN re-licensure requirements.
• Increasing clarity on the curriculum review process. The state has a role to play in ensuring districts can make informed decisions around evidence-based and culturally relevant curricula choices.

Your voice matters! Contact the Education Committee today and urge them to prioritize investments for effective READ Act implementation this session!
