Tell Congress to Protect the U.S. Department of Education

On November 18, U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon took a devastating step towards dismantling the U.S. Department of Education by signing six agreements to transfer major education programs to different federal agencies across the government, representing billions in education programming. This is an unprecedented attack on public schools that will rip away funding from students, eliminate protections for the most vulnerable, and leave millions of families without critical support.

This holiday season, tell your Congress Members to reject these changes and speak out against these unlawful attempts to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

This time of the year is a time of reflection and renewal. But as we head into the new year we’ve got to sound the alarm to prevent the gutting of the U.S. Department of Education.

Every child in America deserves access to a quality public education, and our teachers and local school leaders deserve support from the federal government to help them do their jobs.

The changes announced at the U.S. Department of Education on November 18 undermine the promises we’ve made to all children, including students with disabilities, students from low-income communities, and students from rural communities. For teachers and education leaders, the changes mean they’ll have to deal with as many as SIX different federal agencies, rather than having one clear point of contact. These changes will create even MORE red tape, uncertainty, and chaos in our public schools.

America is the best country in the world, and our kids and families deserve better. The proposed cuts at the U.S. Department of Education won’t make anyone’s school better, safer or more equal.

I’m reaching out in protest of these changes and urge you to speak out against them. Congress created the U.S. Department of Education and approved the spending of these funds, so only Congress has the authority to make these changes. Please speak out and express your concern to Education Secretary McMahon, the White House, and your colleagues in Congress.
